Abstract

1427290 Crane booms J I CASE CO 13 Dec 1974 [28 Feb 1974] 53934/74 Heading B8B A crane boom section, Figs. 4, 5, comprises a pair of longitudinal channel members 24 each having a web 26 and flanges 28 and positioned with the webs 24 located in spaced, parallel planes. The flanges 28 extend towards each other and are spaced being connected by a pair of plates 30. Angle members 32 reinforce the corners of the channel members 24, and act as wear members, while the webs 24 are stiffened by X-shaped members 40 and buttons 52 may also be used. The webs 24 may be lightened by cut-outs 50. As illustrated in Fig. 1 (not shown) three such boom sections (22) are used in a telescoping boom (14) with a modification used as the base section 20, Fig. 6. In this embodiment there are no cut-outs in the webs and the stiffeners are channel members 71. Additional reinforcing channel members 80 are positioned between adjacent channel members 71.
