Abstract

1422860 Filter paper WIGGINS TEAPE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd 9 Oct 1974 [26 Oct 1973] 49994/73 Heading D2B A filter paper comprises 15-95% by wt. of cotton linters or mercerised pulp, the linters or pulp having a density of 0.3 to 0.4 g/cc and a Potts porosity over 30,000 ml/min referring to a 60 g/m<SP>2</SP> air dried sheet of unbeaten fibre, and 5-50% by wt. glass microfibre having a diameter between 0.05 micron and 1.49 micron. Up to 30% by wt. strong cellulose fibre of Potts porosity over 10,000 ml/ min, referring to a 60 g/m<SP>2</SP> air dried sheet of unbeaten fibre, may be included. Exemplified strong cellulose fibres are kraft wood pulp, manilla, eucalyptus, and grass fibres. A chemical binder e.g. starch, dextrin, a carboxymethyl cellulose derivative, polyvinyl alcohol, or a cross-linking acrylic latex may also be added to the paper e.g. prior to sheet formation.
