Abstract
1422226 Automatic voltage regulation MOTOROLA Inc 13 Nov 1973 [20 Nov 1972] 52634/73 Heading G3X A voltage regulator circuit includes a feedback loop which supplies a constant current to a reference device. The circuit uses a four-electrode controlled element. As shown, a Zener diode 20 receives constant current from a regenerative loop 17 including a low current gain lateral transistor 18 with a split collector ring, and a further transistor 19. Circuit elements 12, 13, 15 form a starting circuit which is inoperative during normal supply working. The current in transistor 19 is limited to a fixed value by the valve of a resistor 27 which turns on a transistor 25 connected in series with a load 26. Hence the current through Zener diode 20 is held constant and a constant voltage is supplied to the base of transistor 25 so that the load voltage is regulated.
