1420595 Punching PIERCE-ALL MFG Ltd 17 Jan 1973 [20 Jan 1972] 35004/74 Divided out of 1420594 Heading B3W An upper, punch turret 10 and the lower die turret 40 of a turret punching machine are mounted so that on impact of a ram on a punch the upper turret is axially displaced against a resilient biasing force and on continued downward movement of the ram the lower turret is axially displaced against a resilient biasing force. A spindle 12 supporting the turret 10 is rotatable in a bearing 16 in a bracket 14 and urged to its uppermost position by a spring 18 bearing against adjustable nuts 20. A peripheral roller chain drive 36 moves the turret 10 to bring a selected punch under the machine ram at (72), Fig. 3 (not shown), and the turret is held by engagement of an air-actuated sliding forked wedge 93 with a taper pin 30 associated with the respective punch to be used. The pins are eccentrically mounted and rotatable to provide fine adjustment of the punch location relative to the ram. The wedge assembly is mounted on a plate 83 which is free to move vertically with the turret 10. The plate 83 and drive spindles 94, 97 for the chain drive 36 are mounted on a bracket 81 secured to an adjustable block 74 on which the bracket 14 is mounted. The lower turret 40 is similarly resiliently mounted, and indexed. A disc 98 on the upper end of the spindle 12 carries pins 99 corresponding to the punches which operate a microswitch 100 to programme a, series of punching operations, The turrets are mounted at the front of a work-table (F), Fig. 5B (not shown), with a tool change station (R) projecting forwardly of the table for asscessibility. Conventional spring strippers and punch guides are provided, the resilient mounting of the turret 10 assisting in the stripping action.
