Abstract
1418627 Vehicle wheels JENSEN MOTORS Ltd 6 Dec 1972 [9 Dec 1971] 57166/71 Heading B7C In a motor vehicle road wheel an axially outwardly facing surface 20 of tyre bead retaining flange 14 is formed with a circumferential annular recess 19 of channel-section, or a series of angularly spaced recesses of channel-section, facing axially outwardly, a balance weight (not shown) being secured in the recess 19 or one of the recesses of the series. In the illustrated embodiment the recess 19 is provided on the outboard side 18 of the wheel which has a surface 23 facing generally toward the wheel axis in which a series of angularly spaced recesses 24 are provided shaped as shown in cross-section and of rectangular shape in plan view. A balance weight may also be secured in one of the recesses 24, which latter may be replaced by an annular recess. The balance weight in the recess in the tyre bead retaining flange may be secured by means of a clip attached to the weight and engaged around the radially outer periphery of the flange. Alternatively, in the case of both the weight on the flange and the weight on the surface 23 where provided, the weight may be secured in the recess by adhesive or by mechanical inter-engagement between a deformable part of the weight and the recess which latter may have a re-entrant shape in this instance. The wheel may be cast from aluminium alloy or magnesium.
