Abstract

1417130 Tufting machine SINGER CO 4 Dec 1973 [20 Dec 1972] 60251/72 Heading DIG [Also in Divisions F2] A tufting machine, permitting variation of the needle stroke while the bottom dead centre position of the needles is maintained at the same level, comprises a drive shaft 106, a connecting rod 132, a needle bar 102 connected to the former by the latter and a variable eccentric assembly 101 comprising a first eccentric 108 rotatable on the shaft to any one of a plurality of preselected positions and a second eccentric 110 rotatable on the first, adjusting means 138 being provided to adjust the bottom dead centre position of the needle bar (102, Fig. 6, not shown), connected to rod 142. The first and second eccentrics 108, 110 have flanges 120, 122 which are secured together in selected relative positions by a screw 124, the eccentric 110 having a further flange 112 securable by a screw 114 to a flange 104 on the shaft 106. Reference marks (Fig. 4 not shown) are provided on the flanges to facilitate setting, while flange 112 has turning bar holes (156) to facilitate turning. The lower of rod 132 is adjustably secured to clevis 140 by a pin 144 passing through holes elongated in the direction of the clevis arms. The position of the pin 144 along the arms is determined by which groove 152 on side plates 150 is selected to engage a rib 154 on the outer face of each clevis arm. A multiplicity of grooves are provided on the plates and these are numbered (Fig. 5 not shown) to correspond with the marks on the eccentric flanges.
