Abstract

1413940 Electro-depositing chromiumchromium oxide KLOCKNER-WERKE AG 23 April 1974 [9 May 1973] 17641/74 Heading C7B Tin plate or strip for food containers or industrial packaging is electrolytically post-treated using an electrolyte comprising an aqueous solution containing an alkali metal dichromate e.g. 20 to 25 g/l Na 2 Cr 2 O 7 , 5 to 10 g/l alkali metal (e.g. Na) acetate and 4 to 6 g/l CrO 3 , and having a pH between 4 and 5 and electrical conductivity of 28,000 to 36,000ÁS/cm at 50‹C, with cathodic current density 5.5 to 9.5 A/dm<SP>2</SP>, where 8 to 14 coulomb/dm<SP>2</SP> is used for 1 to 2 sec., to electrodeposit Cr-Cr oxide e.g. containing 25 to 35 mg Cr/m<SP>2</SP> tin plate or strip.
