1413191 Everting hollow organs; stapling devices VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNOISSLE DOVATELSKY INSTITUT KHIRURGICHESKOI APPARATURY I INSTRUMENTOV 4 July 1973 31967/73 Heading A5R An instrument for the eversion of hollow organs, e.g. blood vessels, comprises a bush 12 within which the organ can be accommodated, a base 14 movable axially of the bush, and spikes 13 carried by the base and on which the edge of the organ can be impaled so that downward displacement of the base on the bush effects eversion. The spikes may be rigidly connected to the base, spring-loaded with respect thereto or hinged thereon. The bush may have a longitudinal slot or be formed in two parts, the base also being formed in two parts, to facilitate insertion of the hollow organ. Each spike may be defined by an S-shaped lever the fulcrum of which is the hinge connecting the spike to the base. Each part 21 of a two-part bush may be mounted on one of a pair of pivotally connected arms 17. each corresponding base part being carried by a lever 23 pivoted to an arm 17 for moving the base relative to the bush. The instrument may be included in a stapling device comprising arms 61, 62 each mounting a part bush 71, 72 and pivotally connected to levers 78, 79 for moving the base. The work pieces 67, 69 of the arms also support sliders 94 movable in grooves (95) in the workpieces by means of spring- loaded levers 101, 103 which are locked during the eversion process by contact with the pivots 84, 85 connecting, the levers 78, 79 with the base parts. On completion of eversion the levers 101, 103 are turned about their pivots 102, 104 to displace the sliders 94 towards the bush, spring-loaded plates 96 carried by the sliders and having staple-receiving slots, turning to permit bending of the staples. A haemostatic clamp may be provided at the bottom of the bush and comprises a flat spiral spring secured at one end to the bush.
