Abstract
1410297 Sealing glass compositions PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 April 1974 [12 April 1973] 15668/74 Heading C1M [Also in Division B3] In a high-pressure discharge lamp having a discharge tube, the space between diverging surfaces 6, 7 on the mainly ceramic tube 10 and its closure 5 is largely filled with at least one oxide having a vitreous phase. The ceramic may be sintered polycrystalline aluminium oxide or beryllium oxide, or monocrystalline material such as sapphire. The sealing parts may comprise calcium oxide 47À2 mole % aluminium oxide 37.2 " magnesium oxide 9À6 " barium oxide 4À2 " boron oxide 1À8 " A glass seal may also be used between the niobium conductor 11 and the ceramic closure 5. Figs. 3-5 (not shown) are of alternative forms of the closure seal. The angle between the diverging surfaces may be constant or variable, and only the closure may be bevelled.
