Abstract
1406437 X-ray image converters ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO Ltd 1 Dec 1972 [16 Dec 1971] 58580/71 Heading H1D An X-ray image converter has a photocathode 3 of silicon treated to have negative electron affinity, e.g. by means of a coating 4 of a semiconductor such as Cs 2 O or CsF, means being provided to accelerate the photoelectrons to derive an image or signal representing the image. In Fig. 2 the photoelectrons impinge on a storage target 12 scanned by a beam 15, the repelled electrons being collected by electron multiplier 18 to give an electrical signal at 19. In Fig. 1 (not shown) the photoelectrons are accelerated to a phosphor screen (8) to give a visible image. The silicon photocathode can form part of the envelope.
