Abstract
1405091 Bone fracture fixing devices NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 24 July 1972 [19 Aug 1971] 38989/71 Heading A5R A bone fracture fixing device comprises a tube 1, a spring 4 located under tension along the bore of the tube, and a pair of terminal members 5 each having a first portion 6 connected to an end of the spring and a second portion 7 extending externally of the tube and laterally across the end thereof, to hold the spring under tension. The first portions 6 each carry a screw thread, and the second portions may be in the form of a bone pin 7 or an apertured plate 8 (see Fig. 4). The tube 1 may have a longitudinal slot at at least one of its ends to allow the spring tension to draw the fracture together. The apertured plates 8 may act in association with further terminal members, which may be bone screws passing through the aperture, apertured discs 12 through which wires may be passed, or apertured members through which the plate 8 can be passed and locked in position by rotation or by a locking pin, see Figs. 3 and 5 (not shown). One or more devices may be used in association withan intramedullary rail 14 and the tube 1 may carry a screw thread at its mid-point for engagement in holes 15 in the rail, or with a bore plate, see Fig. 5 (not shown).
