Abstract

1403551 Coated products IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES LTD 20 July 1972 [20 July 1971 20 Dec 1971 2 June 1972 9 June 1972] 27013/72 33470/72 33473/72 and 33474/ 72 Divided out of 1340140 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Substrates are coated with a composition comprising a fluorocarbon polymer and a binder material containing, in combined form, iron, phosphorous and the elements of an acid selected from hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric and hydrobromic acids, the ratio of iron atoms to acid molecules being 1:0.1 to 1:5 and of iron atoms to phosphorous atoms being 1:x where x = 1.8. The composition, for example an aqueous dispersion of polytetrafluoroethylene containing as binder the reaction product of FePO 4 .4H 2 O and hydrochloric acid, is coated on to a substrate, for example steel, the coating is dried, a topcoat of an aqueous dispersion of polytetrafluoroethylene is then applied and dried and the coating is then baked to sinter the polytetrafluoroethylene.
