Abstract

140,261. Kelly, W. P. May 13, 1919. Sterilizing milk and other liquids.-An apparatus for sterilizing or pasteurizing milk and other liquids consists of three nested vessels. The inner vessel 1, which receives the milk, is provided with a discharge tube 8 passing through the base. The second vessel 2 receives hot water up to the level of holes 22. The outer vessel 3, which may be perforated at 30 for air circulation, has a false bottom 24 with an opening 28 through which excess of hot water from the second vessel flows. The space below the false bottom may be discharged through openings 29. Fins 31, a flange 20, and supports or legs 23, 17 serve to space the vessels. The second vessel may have a discharge pipe 25 fitting against an opening 26 in the outer vessel.
