Abstract

1397177 Pistol with single- or multiple-shot firing HECKLER & KOCH GmbH 7 June 1973 [23 June 1972] 27161/73 Heading F3C A self-loading pistol has a trigger mechanism, which is changed from single shot to multiple shot firing by a switch 37, and has a detachable stock in which is located a control member actuated by the switch for such a change and a rounds counter comprising a control lever 46, projecting from the upper side of the stock and actuated by the pistol breech mechanism during recoil, a toothed member 42 controlled by the lever held by a spring-loaded lock pawl 61 in successive positions until an end position whereby it returns the control member to the single shot position to interrupt the firing sequence, the trigger mechanism, during trigger actuation, keeping a further control member in the stock in a position to allow the pawl freedom to engage the toothed member. For single shot firing, entrainment means 16 engage a part 21 of a firing pin 22 to retract it against a spring by trigger arms 15, until the means 16 is depressed by a pin 14 to release the firing pin for firing. In the detachable stock, Fig. 5, the drum switch 37, actuated from outside by a blade, has a pin 39, which, for single shot firing holds the control member in the form of a spindle 34 rightwardly against a spring 36 which in turn, allows a spindle 26 to be spring biased to hold a pawl 24 from engagement with the firing pin 22. Upon switch changeover, the pawl 24 is spring biased clockwise, and upon trigger movement, an elbow 32 of the trigger arms 15 moves to allow pawl movement into engagement with the pin 22; operation of the pawl 24 in conjunction with a cam surface of a sliding breach produces continuous firing as long as the trigger is depressed. To limit the number of shots fired in a multiple shot burst, the lever 46 is depressed at each shot by the breech recoil, this causing a pivoted pawl 53 to engage a tooth 70 of the toothed member 42 in the form of a ratchet wheel, the wheel, after such engagement, moving clockwise and then being held by a locking pawl 61. For a three shot burst, the wheel 42 has two teeth 70, 71 for movement and upon the second movement, a pin 73 thereon engages the spindle 34 to cease actuation of the pawl 24 to effectively produce a final single shot to end the burst. Alternatively, release of the trigger causes the arms 15 to operate a member 67 in the stock to release the looking pawl 61 from the wheel 42 to return the stock parts to their original positions. Upon further trigger actuation the stock parts are again actuated to produce the required multiple shot burst. The stock is attached to the gun by T-bolts.
