Abstract

1395658 Automatic control of pressure and speed NISHIMATSU CONSTRUCTION CO Ltd 13 Sept 1972 42582/72 Heading G3R The pressure at the working face of a tunnelling shield is kept constant by regulating an eddy current coupling 3 between a motor 2 and a pump 1, which supplies water to the face, in response to the difference between a signal from a pressure transducer 7 at the face and a reference value 9. The resulting error signal from 8 is amplified at 10 and given a P.I.D. characteristic, and this forms a reference voltage for a speed control loop comprising a tachogenerator 12. A variable speed slurry outlet pump 6, 3', 2' may be shut down in emergency by a valve 13, the system continuing to control pressure in these circumstances.
