Abstract

1392339 Stroke practicing apparatus G H SALMONT 16 June 1972 [17 June 1971] 28409/72 Heading A6D Recreational apparatus for stroke practice comprises an inclined shaft 15 mounted for rotation about its longitudinal axis; an arm 20 attached to and extending from the shaft with a ball 21 or other objected to be struck attached to its outer end; means for limiting the rotation of the shaft to less than 180‹, such that when the ball is struck it will be impelled along an upwardly inclined arc away from a position of rest and thereafter return to, the rest position under the action of gravity; and cushioning means for cushioning the return movement of the shaft. As shown the shaft 15 is mounted in bearings 16, 17 in a structure 10 loaded in its base and/or secured to a support surface. Angular movement of the shaft is limited by pneumatic spring loaded piston/cylinder device 24 the piston being connected to an arm 25 carried by shaft 15. This device also cushions the return movement of the shaft. The shaft 15 has an extension 18 with locking means 19 to allow height adjustment. The arm 20 is pivotted to the extension 18 by pin 22 and a nut 23 allows angular adjustment of the arm 20 relative to the shaft axis. The arm 20 can also be rotated through 180‹ about the pin 22 so that the ball 21 will then take up a position for a backhand shot or for a fore-hand shot by a lefthanded player.
