Abstract

1387510 Continuous air oxidation of sour water TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 3 July 1973 31653/73 Heading C1C A continuous process for the liquid phase air oxidation of sulphide-containing water to convert said sulphide to sulphates comprises: adjusting the pH to 6-13, heating to 250- 520‹ F., oxidizing at 75-800 p.s.i.g. at a liquid hourly space velocity of 0À5-12À0 with a non-catalytic oxidizing medium containing from 0-500% excess oxygen (basis stoichiometric conversion of sulphide to sulphates), and recovering a sulphide containing effluent. The process may be used for treating effluents from petroleum refineries or for treating black liquor from paper pulp plants.
