Abstract

1387285 Boots &c B M CAMERON 10 Feb 1972 [19 July 1971] 6373/72 Heading A3B A shoe e.g. for athletes comprises a sole 44 which is moulded to have an interface establishing a rotary connection between the sole and a ground engaging pad 46. The shoe is made by forming an upper 10 on a last, positioning the last with upper in a mould, injecting material into the mould to form the sole bonded to the upper, and forming in the sole a rotary connection for the ground engaging pad 46. In a preferred method, (Fig. 2) there is placed in the sole mould cavity a disc 18 whose upper surface and outer portions of the lower surface carry a releasing agent while the remainder of the lower surface carries a bonding agent. After injection of the sole material, the ground engaging pad below disc 18 is cut free from the surrounding sole material and the release agent ensures that the pad is rotatable in the sole. Disc 18 may be dispensed with. In a modified method (Fig. 4, not shown) a solid cylinder (28) is positioned against the central portion of the underside of the disc during injection so that when the shoe is removed, a ground engaging pad may be attached to the disc e.g. by screws and nuts. In a further modification, separate injection passages are provided for the sole cavity and the ground engaging pad cavity.
