Abstract

1383706 Cleaning pads T V MOSS 17 March 1972 [30 March 1971] 12669/72 Heading A4F A scrubbing or buffing device for use in cleaning carpeting or other surfaces comprises a layer of absorbent yarn cords 8, covered on at least one side by an open scrim covering 3, e.g. of nylon, polyethylene, polyester, polypropylene, or rayon, for preventing excessive wear of the cords 8 and for loosening dirt, and allowing cleaning liquid to pass therethrough to the cords 8. In the illustrated embodiment a scrim covering 3 is provided on both sides of the cord layer, and the edges of the device are reinforced by a stiff cord 19 Fig. 2 (not shown), and bound with nylon or cotton tape 4. The cords 8 may be parallel or formed as loops 9 Fig. 3 (not shown), on one or both sides of a fabric backing (10). The device may be rectangular for mounting on a rectangular head in a rotary buffing machine, or may be of oval or obler shape and mounted on a rotary brush in a buffing machine. In other embodiments the device is mountable on a mop frame or mop head Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown).
