Abstract

1383518 Postal apparatus D M GUNK 14 Jan 1972 [18 Jan 1971] 1808/71 Heading G4H Apparatus for automatically calculating the cost of sending a parcel 12 of given weight 11 to a destination having a given postal address code 13-17 comprises a computer 10 to which are fed signals representing the code and the weight of the parcel to obtain the cost of postage. The computer 10 may be digital or analogue, and the code may be entered by means of rotary shaft encoders operated by levers 13L-17L. The cost and the location corresponding to the code are indicated at a window 21. The cost is paid into a coin receiver 24 whereupon a printer 22 prints labels indicating the postage and the address code (Fig. 2, not shown), one for the parcel and one as a receipt (alternatively a clerk may replace the receiver 24). If other services are required, the appropriate input 18-20 is actuated and the cost is modified accordingly in the computer.
