Abstract
1381677 Growing yeast &c. in water-in-oil emulsion INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE and ENTREPRISE DE RECHERCHES ET D'ACTIVITES PETROLIERES-ELF 31 July 1972 [3 Aug 1971] 35729/72 Heading C6F A micro-organism e.g. Candida lipolytica is grown in an aerated and stirred water-inhydrocarbon oil (inverse) emulsion, part at least of the emulsion is taken off and allowed to settle whereby the emulsion is naturally broken, and the settled oily phase is recycled. The settled aqueous phase, from which the micro-organism is recovered, may also be returned, after regeneration with nutritive constituents. Alternatively, the aqueous phase may be ted to an oil-in-water (direct) emulsion fermentation.
