Abstract

1379460 Seismic signal processing CONTINENTAL OIL CO 2 March 1972 [29 July 1971] 9842/72 Heading H4D Static correction differences as between earth surface positions along a seismic survey line are computed, from traces recorded using various source and receiver locations, by (a) cross-correlating traces having common sourcereceiver offsets, (b) determining the seismic travel times at which the peak of each resulting correlation function occurs and (c) obtaining, from algebraic expressions relating these travel times to the differences in static corrections between adjacent surface positions, values of these differences. By using conmom offset traces in step a, no knowledge of seismic velocity is needed in computing the static correction differences. In step c the values are obtained by a least-squares fit method. An iterative process may be used to obtain accurate static corrections, a comprising a further step (d) of applying determined corrections to the traces then repeating steps (a) to (d).
