1376319 Gas turbine combustion apparatus DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 11 Dec 1972 [1 Nov 1971] 50635/71 Heading F1L A flame stabilizing device, e.g. for the re-heat duct 1 of a gas turbine engine, comprises an annular member 2 having a faired upstream facing surface 3 and a flat downstream facing surface 4 and suction means for influencing gas flow over the member so as to induce stable vortex formation adjacent surface 4 when flame stabilization is not required. The suction means comprises suction S acting through holes or annular continuous or discontinuous slots 5, 6 so as to reduce the drag of member 2. A flow divider 7 may be provided to separate the vortices.
