1375920 Frames for handling containers CLARK EQUIPMENT CO 8 Dec 1972 [9 Dec 1971] 56656/72 Heading B8H An attachment for lifting a container 66 comprises a pair of inverted L-shaped beam assemblies 26 (only one shown) which are attached by hooks 32 to the lifting carriage of a lift truck 10, the horizontally projecting arms 27 of the assemblies 26 together with a pair of transverse beams 40 secured thereto forming a support frame 42 from which a lifting frame 50 having container-engaging twist locks 60 is suspended by means of chains 46 which permit limited side shifting movement of the frame 50 relative to the support frame 42 to either the left or right side in Fig. 3, such side shifting movement being effected by means of a pair of hydraulic rams 70, 72 which are pivotally connected to the arms 27 and whose piston-rods are connected to a ring 82 which is further connected to a pair of longitudinally adjustable turnbuckles 88, 90 which are pivotally to laterally extending members 56 of the lifting frame 50 such that on retraction of either of the rams 70, 72 the frame 50 is moved in the direction of movement of the piston-rod of that ram. The lifting carriage of the lift truck 10 is elevatable along a mast 12 which may be tilted about a horizontal axis by means of tilt cylinder actuators. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the rams are connected by respective pairs of cables (102, 104) to comer brackets (106) of the lifting frame, while in third and fourth embodiments, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), the pair of rams are disposed in a V-shaped and inverted V- shaped configuration respectively and in a fifth embodiment, Fig. 9 (not shown), the said rams, together with respective turnbuckle connectors (130) attached thereto form a truncated, inverted V-shaped configuration.
