Abstract

1370121 Dynamoelectric machine JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 4 Feb 1972 [5 Feb 1971] 4093/71 Heading H2A In a starter motor, for an I.C. engine, comprising a commutator 25 carried by a rotor shaft 22 and engaged by brushes 19 mounted on the stator, the stator includes a casing comprising two cylindrical portions 11a 12a, overlapping the outer surface of and secured by screws 26, 27, to a field assembly including a cylindrical sleeve 13 carrying poles 14, 15 on its inner surface. The motor shown has four stator poles secured by screws 17 to the sleeve 13 and carrying a wave wound field winding held in position by flanges, e.g. 14a, formed on the poles. Alternatively, the poles may be welded to the sleeve 13 and the electromagnet poles may be replaced by permanent magnets. The gap between the adjacent ends of the casing portions 11a, 12a, may be sealed by an 0-ring or by a resilient band overlapping the ends of the casing portions.
