1367983 Resistors; inductors; component assemblies STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 25 May 1972 24692/72 Headings H1R H1S and H1T A thin or thick film resistor element formed on an insulating substrate comprises a closed loop 1 (or a C-shaped element) of material, e.g. nickel-chrome, with conducting electrodes 2 and 3 contacting the inner and outer peripheries of the loop respectively, connection being made to the centre electrode 2 via a bridging conductor carried on an insulating bridge (not shown) across the resistor element or by an insulated extension 8 formed in a channel 7 in the resistor element and outer electrode. The resistor may be incorporated in planar, spiral inductors, being positioned at the centre of the spiral, for use in low "Q" tuned circuits, and also in RC networks, the film being formed on the surface of a substrate in which interleaved plates are embedded, Fig. 4 (not shown). Other closed loops may be used, i.e. annular, and formulµ for calculating the resistance across a square loop and annular loop are derived.
