Abstract

1365498 Cultivators C VAN DER LELY NV 15 Dec 1971 [21 Dec 1970] 58296/71 Heading A1B A cultivator comprising a main frame beam 1 with a row of soil working members 3, each of which is rotatable about a corresponding upright shaft 2, is provided at its forward edge with a deflector 12 consisting of a rigid beam 13 of L-shaped cross-section, with a cover plate 14 to prevent stones from lodging between the two limbs. Beam 13 is connected to horizontal pivots 16, located forward of deflector 12, by supports 15 at its opposite ends. The height of deflector 12 with respect to frame beam 1 can be altered by varying the setting of support 18, attached to pivot 16, in vertical guides 19 at opposite ends of frame 1 and of pivot (27) attached to bracket (26) on support (25) at the midpoint of the frame 1. Deflector 12 is held resiliently in position against stops 24 by strong springs 22 extending vertically between pins 21A in supports 18, and pins 23 at its opposite ends. Thus any stone entering between deflector 12 and tine supports 5 forces deflector 12 to turn downwardly and forwardly about the axis of pivots 16 and 27 against springs 22 which, when the stone has fallen or been pushed clear, restore deflector 12 to its original position. The lowermost edge of deflector 12 is between 0 and 6 cms. below that of the tine supports 5 and between 1 and 2cms from the foremost position of the tines 6. A rotary compressing roller 8 and shield plates 11 are provided as described in Specification 1277679, and the soil working members are constructed and arranged as described in that specification. In another embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), an alternative deflector (30) mounted and generally constructed as is deflector 12, consists of a series of neighbouring arcuately curved portions (31), the centres of curvature of which coincide with the axes of the associated soil working members 3. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specifications 1226679, 1226680 and 1277679.
