Abstract

1364566 Making cupped articles; forging; extruding LANGENSTEIN & SCHEMANN AG 27 Sept 1971 [19 Feb 1971] 44831/71 Headings B3A B3P and B3H Shell casings &c. having frusto-conical inner surfaces merging into cylindrical surfaces are formed by forwardly extruding a cup shaped blank the length of a tapering inner surface of which is increased by the extrusion process. The blank is formed by compressing a workpiece 3 between dies 1, 2 and then forging and piercing the compressed work between a punch 5 and a die 4. At the following workstation a punch 13 forwardly extrudes the blank in a die 12, thus increasing its length. Finally, an end-flange is trimmed off the work by a collar 24 on a mandrel 22 and a die 17 as the work is trued in a gauging sleeve 18 beneath a stripper 17a. Ejectors 8, 16, 21 are provided.
