Abstract

1363739 Spray carburetters ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 2 Dec 1971 [11 Jan 1971] 55891/71 Addition to 1336606 Heading F1B Fuel injection system for a mixturecompression, spark ignition I. C. engine with continuous injection into the inlet manifold, as claimed in claim 1 of Specification 1336606 has a pressure control valve which varies the pressure of the fluid as a function of engine operating characteristics and has the tension of a closure spring of the valve controlled by a first temperature responsive element and a second temperature responsive element which is arranged to oppose the closure spring for a brief period after starting. The system provides a very rich mixture immediately after the engine has started and the cylinder walls are cold and then reduces the strength of the mixture, while still providing a richer than normal mixture, until the cooling water reaches its operating temperature. The mixture strength is dependent upon the position of a slide valve 12, the endface 13 of which is acted on by the pressure of fuel in a chamber 31. A pipe 50 leads from chamber 31 to a diaphragm valve 57, 58 which acts as a controlled pressure relief valve. The diaphragm is pressed against the duct 57 by a spring 59 which abuts a cup 64 supported by a first temperature responsive element 63, which when cold, effectively reduces the pressure of the spring. The element 63 is responsive to the cooling water temperature. The second temperature responsive element is a bi-metal strip 68, which when cold, acts against the spring. An electrical heater 69 operates as soon as the engine is started and quickly heats the strip 68 so that it bends away from the spring and has no further effect.
