Abstract
1361811 Hydrogenation catalysts TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 20 Sept 1971 [6 Nov 1970 (2)] 43709/71 Heading B1E [Also in Division C2] Catalyst comprising metal selected from metals of Groups VIIB and VIII supported on activated carbon is stabilized by heating for at least one hour, for example for 2 to 8 hours, at a temperature of from 500 to 1300‹F under a pressure of from 300 to 700 psig in a non- oxidizing gas selected from hydrogen, nitrogen. helium, neon, argon, methane, ethane, propane and hydrogen/hydrocarbon mixtures, for example a mixture available as off-gas from a catalytic reforming unit. The Group VIIB/VIII metal, which may constitute from 0.1 to 10. weight per cent of the catalyst, may. be rhenium, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, platinum or a combination of metals, for example rhenium-platinum. The carbon may have an ash content of below 5.0 weight per cent and a surface area of from 800 to 1400 m<SP>2</SP>/g. Examples relate to the heat-treatment of palladium-carbon catalyst either in hydrogen or in nitrogen or initially in nitrogen and thereafter in hydrogen, to the regeneration-by heating in hydrogen of deactivated palladiumcarbon catalyst which had been subjected to heat-treatment in nitrogen prior to use and deactivation, and to heat-treatment in hydrogen of platinum-carbon catalyst and of rheniumcarbon catalyst; details relating to the initial preparation of such palladium-carbon and rhenium-carbon catalysts are given in the Specification.
