Abstract
1358641 Foundry mould compositions TSENTRALNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT TEKHNOLOGII MASHINOSTROENIA 18 Aug 1972 38728/72 Heading C3N A self-hardening moulding mixture for the production of foundry moulds and cores comprises sand, an organic binder, and a particulate hardening agent containing 40-98% by weight of tricalcium aluminate, the hardening agent consisting of compounds which can be considered as notionally containing CaO and Al 2 O 3 in a molar proportion of 1À6 : 1-4 : 1 and impurities which do not interfere with the hardening of the mixture. The organic binder may be a lignosulphonate of an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium; a soluble tar obtained in pyrolysis of wood pulp and treated with lime; or dextrin. Sulphite alcohol waste liquor is preferably used as the lignosulphonate containing material. The hardening agent is preferably used in an amount 3-12% by weight of the organic binder. The mixture may also contain a foaming agent, preferably in an amount 0À1-0À6% of the weight of the sand. The sand is preferably quartz.
