Abstract

1354592 Polyester resin composition GENERAL TIRE & RUBBER CO 29 July 1971 [21 Oct 1970] 35812/71 Heading C3P A cured low shrink polyester based thermosetting resin having good paint adhesion properties is prepared by adding 5-30 parts by weight per 100 parts cured polyester resin of acrylamide, methacrylamide or dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate to the resin mixture before curing. Long lists of acids, alcohols and crosslinking monomers useful for preparing suitable polyester resins are given and the resins may be made "low shrink" by the addition of thermoplastic resins such as polymethyl methacrylate, polypropylene, polyethylene and polystyrene. Numerous paints suitable for use with this resin are specified. In examples an isophthalic fumarate polyester crosslinked with styrene is used and the composition also includes polystyrene and polyethylene as low shrink additives, t-butyl peroctoate catalyst, dibutyl metacresol, magnesium oxide in mineral oil, zinc stearate, calcium carbonate filler and glass fibre.
