Abstract

1354270 Copolymers of cyclic olefins PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO 26 July 1971 [27 July 1970] 41794/73 Divided out of 1353387 Heading C3P Copolymers are obtainedby ring-opening polymerization of a monomer mixture comprising, per 100 parts by weight of total (a) and (b) together, (a) at least 50 parts of a cyclic mono-olefin having 5 or 7-10 C atoms in the ring, (b) 0À001 to 50 parts of an omega-alkenylpolycycloalkene and optionally, (c) 0À01 to 10 parts of a non-tertiary acyclic mono- or polyolefin (including those with cyclic substituent groups). Polymerization is preferably achieved by means of a homogeneous olefin disproportionation catalyst such as molybdenum trichloride dioctanoate and Et 2 AlCl. Numerous examples of each type of monomer are mentioned; polymerization of a mixture of cyclopentene, 5-vinyl-2-norbornene and 1-hexene is described.
