Abstract

1354158 Photographic processes using hydrogen peroxide addition compounds AGFAGEVAERT AG 12 Nov 1971 [17 Nov 1970] 52592/71 Heading G2C A photographic process for the production of visible images comprises imagewise exposing of a photo-sensitive layer to produce in the layer an imagewise distribution of a substance which catalytically decompose hydrogen peroxide, treating the layer with an adduct of hydrogen peroxide and an organic compound from which hydrogen peroxide is generated on decomposition, and there producing a visible image either physically in the form of vesicles (the layer containing a film-forming binder) or chemically by using the oxygen formed by the decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide for a colour-forming oxidation reaction. Preferably heat is required to decompose the adduct. The light-sensitive layer may be silver halide optionally with a coupler (as in Specifications 1196200 and 1268126), a heavy metal complex salt as in Specification 1329444, a protein as in Specification 1332692 or an organic compound generating iodine as in Specification 1307559. The specified adduct is a 1:1 adduct of urea and hydrogen peroxide but adducts with amides, hydrazides or aliphatic polyhydric alcohols may be used. In Example 3, a silver halide emulsion is imagewise exposed and developed, treated with the adduct and then with a solution containing pyrocatechol and N, N-diethyl p-phenylene diamine to produce a dye image. In Example 4 silver halide emulsion containing a cyan coupler is exposed and developed to produce a silver image, treated with the adduct and then with a colour developer to produce a cyan image on the silver image. Alternatively, a mixture of ammonium ferric citrate, ammonium ferric oxalate and potassium ferricyanide may be used to produce a faint blue image which is amplified by the peroxide treatment.
