Abstract

1348288 Cleaning brushes; suction cleaning ILFORD Ltd 12 July 1972 [2 Aug 1971] 36169/71 Heading A4F Particles of foreign matter are removed from a travelling web 1 by contacting it with a roller 3 revolving at a speed not greater than 10 revolutions per minute and having a surface sleeve 4 of an easily electrostatically-chargeable non-frillable synthetic fibrous pile material, e.g. nylon velvet having a loop pile, so that the particles are transfered to the sleeve 4 with the assistance of an electrostatic charge, and are then removed from the sleeve 4, e.g. by a slotted suction tube 5 or by immersion in a volatile liquid. Between the web 1 and the suction tube 5 the sleeve 4 may be subjected to a corona discharge or to #-radiation to reduce its electrostatic charge. Any sliver's of web material at the edges of the web are removed by passage of the web between spring pressed pads 2.
