1347431 Packaging powders; emptying hoppers DRG PACKAGING Ltd 29 Jan 1973 [28 Jan 1972] 4145/72 Headings B8C and B8S In apparatus for compacting powders, the powder is fed, via a butterfly valve, into the top of a chamber 4 which is then evacuated through outlet 2 before the re-admission of air through inlet 7 and perforated toroid 3, the compacted powder then fed through a filling spout 12 by a driven variable-pitch screw 14 which is supplied with powder by paddles 5. Flow to spout 12 is aided by vacuum connection 6. Screw 14 may be arranged on a vertical axis, and reciprocatory rams may replace the paddles.
