Abstract

1347024 Clocks and watches CITIZEN WATCH CO Ltd 20 April 1971 [20 April 1970 4 June 1970 5 June 1970] 10202/71 Heading G3T To permit precise setting of seconds and minutes hands at the instant of a time signal, a centre seconds hand timepiece is provided with a heart cam 233 on the seconds hand arbor 224 and an orbicular cam 215 operatively connected to the minutes hand arbor. Depression of a push button or stem 203 at the instant of the signal sets the seconds hand to zero or twelve o'clock but only similarly sets the minutes hand if the latter is within a small range of this position so that a projection 201c on a lever 201 may enter cam slot 215a. If the minutes hand is outside the range, it is not set since the projection 201c bears against the plain periphery 215b of the cam. Setting of the seconds hand is, however, permitted by slip occurring between lever surface 201d and a pin 206 fixed to seconds hand reset lever 204. This latter mechanism may be replaced by a tilting pin arrangement Figs. 2 and 3A, B (not shown). Various embodiments are described; the orbicular cam may have several notches and be reset by a sliding member (508) Figs. 10A-C (not shown). Both cams may be actuated by a single lever (301) Figs. 7A-D (not shown). The timepiece may be driven by an electromagnetically maintained balance (403) Figs. 8, 9 (not shown) cooperating with a fixed sensing and drive coil assembly (430). In this case, the setting mechanism is arranged to stop the balance other than in its neutral position and to hold the sixth wheel (421) of the train to prevent transmission of stress to the impulse pin on the balance.
