Abstract

1345739 Reducing the chromium content of effluents FOSPUR Ltd 7 July 1972 [7 July 1971] 31976/71 Heading C1C A method of treating a hexavalent chromiumcontaining industrial effluent to reduce the chromium content thereof comprises contacting the effluent with a source of divalent iron and separating the resultant sludge. The sludge contains trivalent iron and chromium hydroxide. The contacting may occur at a pH of 3-6 and at elevated temperature. The effluent may be contacted with an iron dust-containing effluent from the scrubber of a steel converter or may be used in the scrubbing process.
