C. engines comprises a hollow casing 1 adapted to be mounted on the inlet manifold and a tubular valve body 5 connectable at 6 to a source of liquid fuel and surrounded by a heater coil. Air enters an extension 3 through apertures 4 to mix with vaporized fuel leaving an outlet (not shown) from valve body 5 and the mixture is ignited by an igniter element 7. A restricted aperture 15 in an end cap 14 minimizes the cooling effect of air flow through apertures 4 on the element 7. Rod member 13 is adjustably secured to the valve body remote from a valve ball 12. Rod 13 and valve body 5 are of materials such that differential expansion on heating causes ball 12 to move away from its seating 11.
