Abstract

1341257 Centrifugal and axial-flow compressors L ANDERSSON 19 April 1971 [16 April 1970] 27283/71 Heading F1C A rotary machine for gaseous media, e.g. a compressor, comprises a stationary guide wheel 2, Fig. 1, having radially inner and outer rows of guide vanes 40, 42, and a rotor 3 in which the gaseous medium is deflected from one row of guide vanes to the other so as to flow in countercurrent through coaxial inlet and outlet channels 12, 14. In the compressor shown the rotor blades 38, 39 impart axial acceleration to the gas, and are of aerofoil form in cross-section and make an angle of approximately 90 degrees with their associated guide vanes, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). Centrifugal acceleration is imparted to the gas in groove 36 in the rotor. The groove 36 may have blades 37 which may constitute continuations of the blades 38. The guide vanes and rotor blades are backwardly inclined. The rotor is driven by combustion gases acting on blades 45 on the rotor periphery.
