Abstract

1341132 Sewing machine; folding DUPLAN CORP 11 Oct 1971 [30 Oct 1970] 47247/71 Headings D1G and D1S [Also in Division A3] In an apparatus for making belt-retaining loops (see Division A3) a strip of tape is cut and delivered on a carriage to a transfer head 101 where one or both ends of the strip 306 are bent round pins on said carriage by jaws 140 operated through articlated links 148 by a pneumatic ram piston rod 146, two further rams being provided to tilt the head 101 and move the latter normally to the plane of Fig. 14 to facilitate receiving each strip from the carriage and releasing the folded strip whereupon the strip 306 is held between side arms 176 and jaws 187a of a pivoted clamp operated by a ram and is then carried to a sewing machine by a further ram. At the sewing machine a first lug thereof is located in a socket 178 and one end of the loop is sewn to a garment by moving a shoe of the sewing machine in a slightly arcuate path and subsequently the strip with its clamp assembly is displaced by an additional ram and the other end is sewn similarly. An alternative sewing machine station is shown in Fig. 18 wherein a clamp bracket 352 with fingers at 357b retains the loop allowing the moving clamp assembly 300 to be retracted to receive another loop while the first loop is being sewn.
