Abstract

1336836 Calipers Y NUMATA 11 Aug 1972 [12 Aug 1971] 37555/72 Heading G1M The main bar 1 of a caliper gauge has a rack 2 engaged by a worm gear 28 rotated by movement of a slide 3 along the bar 1. The worm meshes with a wheel 20 which rotates coarse scale decimal counter wheels 22-24 through drive pinions 26, 27 all contained within a frame 25' fixed to the slide 3. The slide also supports pinions 6, 7 in mesh with the rack 2 and connected to a gear 8 which is fixed to a shaft 8A and to a gear 9 which is rotatable on a shaft 9A. A pre-loaded flat coil spring 10 is fixed at its ends to shaft 9A and gear 9 so that constant torque is applied to them preventing backlash, and a pinion 12 meshing with gears 8 and 9 is fixed to a shaft 11A mounting a fine scale reading graduated disc 11. In operation, the numbers on the disc 11 align with the numbers on the counter wheels 22-24 to show as a line of numbers readable through a window 13.
