Abstract
1334683 Brazing DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 29 Sept 1970 46271/70 Heading B3R [Also in Division B2] A method of brazing two parts together comprises the steps of first applying to at least one of the joint surfaces a permanently tacky adhesive, applying to the outer surface of said adhesive a mono-particulate layer of graded metallic brazing powder, placing the parts together and heat-treating the assembly so that the parts are diffusion brazed together. The adhesive vaporizes off from between the assembled surfaces. Brazing may be effected in vacuo and the parts may be enclosed in an evacuated flexible metallic foil bag. The adhesive may be applied by brush or spray and certain proprietary adhesives are referred to. The metal powder may be applied by dipping the adhesive coated part in a bath or fluidized bed, excess powder being shaken off, or by a brush and the powder may be compacted by a roller. Examples are given in which reference is made to brazing turbine blade parts and to brazing honeycomb material to a coated metal sheet to form a heat- or sound-insulating panel. Examples of the metal powder include a nickel/ boron brazing alloy and the parts to be joined may be of "Nimonic" (Registered Trade Mark) alloys.
