Abstract

1333242 Tufting machine; needle drive adjustment SINGER CO (UK) 9 Aug 1971 [22 Aug 1970] 40559/70 Heading D1G [Also in Division F2] A tufting machine has an adjuster mechanism for readily varying the extent of oscillation of the needle-stroke shaft 19 thus providing a ready adjustment of the needle-stroke. As shown, an eccentric 13, on a driving shaft 12, through an eccentric strap 11 oscillates a bellcrank 14 and links 16, 18a to oscillate the needle-stroke shaft 19. The bell-crank 14 oscillates on a fixed pivot 24 and needle-stroke variation is effected by adjusting the pivot end 27 of the link 16 along an arcuate slot 17 in the bell-crank 14, an adjustment indicator scale 29 being provided adjacent the slot 27. The slot 17 may be replaced by a curved guide bar (not shown) or by an arcuate line of holes to which the link 16 may be selectively pivotally connected. The bottom-centre position of the needle remains the same irrespective of the needle-stroke adjustment, the timing of the needle-stroke thus being unaffected by the adjustment.
