Abstract

1329456 Collapsible steering columns; steering column lock AVTOMOBILNY ZAVOD IMENI LENINSKOGO 8 Dec 1970 58139/70 Headings B7H and B7J In a safety steering column a sleeve 8 on an upper section 3 of the steering shaft 1 has longitudinal slits 9 and tightly receives the other lower section 4 of the shaft 1, the two sections being prevented from relative rotation by matching splines 10, Fig. 2, or by apertures 15, Fig. 4, in the sleeve 14 receiving a pin 16 for cooperating with a flat 18 on the lower section 17. The shaft 1 is rotatably supported in a support assembly 2 comprising two telescopically connected tubular members 19, 20 with annular projections 23 formed on either one of the tubular members thus providing a tension fit. A slit 9 can accommodate the projectable locking member 33 of a locking device mounted on the support 2.
