Abstract

1328538 Sound amplifiers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 Sept 1970 [18 Sept 1969] 44017/70 Heading H4X A transducer employing a diaphragm has a horn including a lumped impedance acoustic delay to increase its length. As shown the horn comprises two injection moulded synthetic disc members 1 and 2 having annular grooves 13 (having a slight taper so as to be readily dislodgeable from the mould) in adjacent faces. Sound from the diaphragm 5 is coupled to the horn via an acoustic transformer chamber 9 and a very narrow annular throat 11 formed by insertion pieces 20 and 21. The grooves decrease in length towards the outer edge of the horn to provide a purely resistive impedance at the outer edge which may couple to a conventional horn. A reflector 22 is secured to one disc member and may be in the form of a truncated horns (Fig. 3, not shown) the other disc member being provided with a domed member on its outer face.
