Abstract
1328359 Acoustic surface wave delay lines GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 8 Oct 1971 [8 Oct 1970] 48000/70 Heading H3U An acoustic surface wave delay line comprises metallized interdigital electrodes 8-11 directly mounted on a monocrystalline quartz body, or, alternatively, a fused silica body supports piezo-electric pads under the transducers which are mounted at an angle of about 5 degrees to the edges of the body 1. The surface waves, launched by transducer 8, and received by transducers 9, 10 and 11 in that order after successive increments in the delay time thus follow a substantially helical path 14. A region 15 of absorptive material ensures that waves from transducer 8 are transmitted only in the sense of path 14. The radius of the semicircular ends 4, 5 is of the order of 100#, where # is the acoustic wavelength, but can be less than, or about 10# if some energy loss is tolerable. Dimensions of a 100 MH 2 delay line are given. A similar construction may be used as a filter.
