1327326 Slack adjusters SOC SNC OMDSOFFICINE MECCANICHE DI SOMBRENO DI BOMBASSEI E BREDA 17 Sept 1971 [28 Nov 1970] 43482/71 Heading F2E In a disc brake slack is taken up automatically as a pad 4 is actuated by a piston 3 by means of a cup spring 6 frictionally engaging the inner wall 11 thereof and attached by a groove 8 and shoulder washer 7 to a shaft 5 such that during normal movement of piston 3 an edge 6a of spring 6 is kept in frictional contact with wall 11 thereby deforming the spring but when excessive pad wear occurs piston 3 moves further forward without inducing further distortion of the spring. When the braking ceases the resilience of the spring 6 returns the piston 3 to a rest position at which the pad is at the optimum distance away from the disc. The spring 6 is provided with radial slots 9, 10, Fig. 2 (not shown), to increase the resilience thereof and to facilitate bleeding of air. In an alternative construction spring 6 is anchored to shaft 5 by means of a spacer 12, Fig. 6 (not shown), instead of the grooves.
