Abstract

1325757 Monitoring yarn winding machines BURLINGTON INDUSTRIES Inc 18 Nov 1970 [18 Nov 1969 (2)] 54805/70 Heading D1F The invention relates to a yarn winding machine comprising a plurality of winding stations and an automatic knotting device, each station comprising:- (a) a yarn breakage detector; (b) means for detecting a bad knot; and (c) a failure detector connected to (b) and activated after counting up to a predetermined number of successive bad knots. The invention provides a monitoring system comprising:- (d) a full cone detector at each of the stations for sensing when the cone at that station is filled with yarn, (e) a condition detector associated with (a), (c) and (d) for producing a first output condition to indicate a non-operation when (a), (c) or (d) has been activated; and a second output condition to indicate an operating condition when neither (a), (c) or (d) have been activated; and (f) efficiency determining means connected to a plurality of the stations for successively and repetitively interrogating a respectively corresponding plurality of the condition detector means (e) for recording and accumulating at least one of the instantaneous conditions thereof to provide an efficiency indication after a predetermined number of scanning cycles. The monitoring system may include an accumulator for counting the total number of detected failures; an accumlator for counting the total number of detected yarn breaks; and an accumulator for counting the total number of detected full cones. There may be a slub detector at each winding station coupled to a slub accumulator for counting and indicating the the total number of detected slubs; and a bad knot accumulator for counting and indicating the total number of detected bad knots. There may be at least one rejected bobbin detector for detecting rejected bobbins still having a residue of yarn left thereon, and an accumulator for counting such bobbins. Two embodiments of the invention are described with reference to circuit diagrams.
