Abstract
1322537 Measuring in boreholes: measuring diameter SOC DE PROSPECTION ELECTRIQUE SCHLUMBERGER 9 July 1970 [10 July 1969] 33400/70 Headings G1M G1N and G1S A sonde for measuring in a borehole comprises an elongated body having four thrust shoes (two of which 25, 26 are shown) mounted on articulated arms 34, 35, 44 and 45 and urged into engagement with the bore walls by springs 60; 61 and a measuring shoe 94 articulated to thrust shoe 26 and urged against the bore wall by spring 98. The measuring shoe comprises a member 94 articulated to thrust shoe 26 via link 93 and having attached to it a rubber or neoprene member 100 which carries a measuring device such as an electrode for resistance measurement. The thrust shoes may be retracted into the body by pumping fluid from chamber 80 along conduit 70 into cylinder 64 to raise piston 73 and hence actuate rod 50. When the thrust shoes are in the retracted position, a lever 101 pivoted to thrust shoe 26 and engaging the measuring shoe by a pin in slot mechanism engages the wall of the sonde body to retract the measuring shoe into housing 30 beyond the line of the thrust shoe Fig. 6, (not shown). To engage the thrust shoes against the wall solenoid valve 83 is opened to allow fluid from cylinder 64 to pass back into chamber 80 under the action of spring 76. The position of the shoes when in contact with the wall may be sensed by a potentiometer 84 actuated by rod 50 to determine the borehole diameter. The fluid-pressure in chamber 80 is equalized with that in the borehole by means of a free piston 77. The upper part of the elongated body may contain other measuring instruments.
